The American Optometric Association was formed to represent optometrists, but sadly given the apparent overwhelming opposition to board certification and the method with which the AOA ramrodded board certification through the recent House of Delegates, optometrists have lost their representative voice within the AOA. The American Optometric Society exists to hold the AOA accountable to its rank and file.
